The Damned

I believe (but could be mistaken) The Damned were the first UK punk band to put out a single, the first to put out an album, and the first to do a US tour. At this point, I wasn’t a huge fan, though I did love their singles ‘New Rose’ and ‘Neat Neat Neat’.

When they came to the West Coast in April of ’77, they played at San Francisco’s main punk club, the Mabuhay Gardens. When Brian James left and Captain Sensible became guitarist and main songwriter, I liked them a lot better and saw them many times after that….
