Peter Gabriel
I first saw Peter Gabriel with Genesis in my college gym in Rochester, NY in March, 1973, on the ‘Foxtrot’ tour. What a commanding front man, and I loved the dryly amusing stories he’d tell between songs! Back then, they were known as much for being a 'theatrical band' as much as a prog rock one, even though only Peter did any theatrics.
I never cared for his solo work as much as I did Genesis, but I still really liked his first 3 albums, all called ‘Peter Gabriel'.
I first saw him do a solo gig at Winterland in 1977, and then the following year at Berkeley Community Theater.
My final Peter Gabriel show was at the Warfield in San Francisco in 1980.
