DEVO
I went into Aquarius Records in San Francisco one day in late ’77, I believe, and they had a new single by a band from Ohio called Devo. ‘Jocko Homo/Mongoloid’ were an awesome couple of songs, and I heard they were supposed to drive audiences into frenzies at live performances.
They played at the Mabuhay Gardens in San Francisco several times; in early 1978, it may have been their first one. But yes, audience was driven into a frenzy - what an amazing band!
They returned later that year to the larger Old Waldorf nightclub, where I got seats right up at the front of the stage, and a few years later played the 2500-capacity Warfield Theater.
