Blue Oyster Cult

I go back a long way with Blue Oyster Cult; I went to college in Rochester, NY, and our radio station there, WCMF, played their first album relentlessly when it came out in 1972. The station also broadcast a live show from the Nugget Pizza Parlor.

Shortly after, they played several nights at a small club in Rochester called the Fun House. I went with some friends in a blizzard to go see ‘em one of those nights. Weren’t many people there except for us and the band! Good time had by all - the band played 2 sets for us and shot pool for 20 minutes or so between them. Did we go over and talk to them? Of course not - they got played on the radio - these were big rock stars!

I've loved the band ever since the beginning, and Don 'Buck Dharma' Roeser remains my favorite guitarist; after I moved to San Francisco, I saw them play many times out here, including a Day on the Green Festival at Oakland Stadium.

I am also a big fan of the 'Imaginos' science fiction/poetry concept started by their manager and lyricist Sandy Pearlman even before their first album, and carried on by former BOC-drummer/singer/songwriter Albert Bouchard.
