Bruce Springsteen

I was still at college when Bruce’s first album came out. One of my friends at college was from New Jersey, and she took to him immediately and tried, with varying degrees of success, to turn the rest of us on to his charms. Not being from New Jersey, it didn’t really connect with me.

A few years later by the time of the 'Born To Run' tour, she’d moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, and Bruce announced a show at the Paramount Theater in Oakland. She got tickets and psychedelics for both of us, and I was transported on great music to New Jersey for 4 hours. I expected to be in New Jersey when I left the theater. But it was still Oakland. We had good seats, but I didn’t bring my camera.

Then he came back again to the Paramount in late 1976, and the two of us went again, and this time I did bring my camera.

The last time I saw Bruce and the E Street Band was at Winterland on the ‘Darkness At the Edge of Town’ tour in 1978. A great 4 hours, but I didn’t need any more Bruce after that…
